Loaves & Fish

Loaves and Fish serves dinner at 5:00 PM every Saturday evening on the Trinity Campus of Grace Episcopal Church, 7 South Highland Avenue in Ossining. Our nutritious meals are served in a warm and loving environment. Everyone belongs and all are welcome. We do not income-qualify our guests, nor are we interested in their ID documents, race, ethnicity, or religion. We do not charge.

Holy Name of Mary parishioners founded this program in 1993 in response to a growing need in the Croton/Ossining community. It is called Loaves and Fish, inspired by Christ’s miraculous feeding of the multitudes. In addition to the fulfillment of worshiping God through service to our brothers and sisters, we benefit from the fellowship and from the relationships developed between us who – from different backgrounds – come together in love for the sake of God.

A long-running partnership between the Church of the Holy Name of Mary in Croton and Grace Episcopal Church in Ossining, Loaves and Fish is supported by 13 volunteer cooking teams, a host of volunteer servers, the parishioners of Holy Name of Mary, and other friends of the program.

How you can help

If you would like to help, please donate. Monetary donations are used to purchase the ingredients we use to cook and serve healthy dinners. We would also like to replace some of the tablecloths and cookware we use, which have become old and worn. 100% of your donations will be used for ingredients and essential supplies; our labor and administrative expenses are donated.

New volunteers are welcome. All our volunteer efforts need to be coordinated to prevent waste while ensuring we are fully covered, so please contact us ahead of time if you wish to participate. Cooking teams serve four or five times per year. We also need servers to help our cooking teams, particularly during the summer months to cover for regulars who are on vacation. Always welcome are people who occasionally make the desserts, the salads, or purchase non-alcoholic drinks for a dinner.

Grace Church is at 7 South Highland Avenue.  It is best to park in Grace’s parking lot off Ellis Place as the stairs leading down to the kitchen entrance are easily accessed from the lot. Cooks arrive around 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM. Servers arrive at 3:45 PM. The meal is served at 5:00 PM and cleanup is finished by 6:15 PM.

Fiona Matthew, Ken Gmoser, and Kristen Zamora coordinate the program.
